Access USA: A Workshop on the Nuts & Bolts of Making the Jump to the U.S.
On April 8, AmCham members and guests attended an interactive Access USA workshop event at the Art Hotel in Rakvere, Estonia, as a part of the U.S. Embassy Tallinn’s “Ameerika Päevad,” to learn more on expanding into the U.S. market.
The event was opened with a short welcome from Chever Voltmer of the U.S. Embassy Tallinn. Also from the U.S. Embassy Tallinn, Brett Makens delivered a speech on how the U.S. Embassy in Tallinn supports and facilitates relationships between Estonian companies and the U.S. market. Following that, David O’Brock of Molycorp spoke about the cultural and business differences in the United States, offering advice on what to do and what not to do professionally. Indrek Laul of Estonia Piano then discussed his personal experience on breaking into the U.S. market and how a good, competitive product succeeds in that market.
After a short coffee break and some light networking, Carl Pucci, Datel, offered advice on how Estonians can be more active and successful in their journey towards a new market, which could be in different cities and states within the U.S for specific markets. From the University of Tartu, Aleksei Kelli mentioned the importance of intellectual property and the different regulations that exist based on the area and the specific market. Daria Sivovol finished the event with an overall description of AmCham Estonia and an explanation on how the chamber helps its member companies.
Participants then enjoyed a behind-the-scenes tour and brief presentation at JeldWen in Rakvere where they learned more about all the different components that occur in the process working with wood and creating doors.
