AmCham Charter Gold Members Meet Ivo Lill – the Estonian Famous Glass Artist!

On April 21, AmCham Charter Gold members had a unique opportunity to get an exclusive tour of Ivo Lill`s house-studio and meet the artist himself! And it was a truly special event!

Ivo Lill is an Estonian glass artist known around the world for his glass sculptures and objects created using cold techniques.

Since then Ivo has held an outsanding number of solo and group exhibitions all over the world – Belgium, Germany, Austria, Italy, Russia, Japan and numerous other countries. He has been awarded several prizes, including the Silver Prize on the International Exhibition of Glass Kanazawahe in 2001, the prize on the Fifth Russian Triennial of glass art “Steklo 2011”, the Cultural Endowment of Estonia Annual prize for solo exhibition “Cool Glass” in 2013. Also in 2013, Ivo Lill was elected as Honorary Member of Russian Academy of Arts.

Ivo also created trophies for the Eurovision Song Contest in 2002, when Estonia hosted the event.

During our visit, Ivo Lill and his wife, Irene Lill, gave us the warmest welcome in their cosy household.

The artist showed his outsanding art collection, some of his latest pieces, including his work in progress for an upcoming exhibition in Germany. Ivo talked about different techniques he uses to create his works: cutting, bonding, polishing, painting and even breaking. What’s even more special about Ivo`s works is that he does everything by hand and does not use any modern technologies (we also had a chance to take a glance at the unique equipment he uses).

Our deepest and sincere gratitude goes to Ivo Lill and his wife for having us in their home and giving us the opportunity to get to know the background of this fragile and magnificent art! We would also like to thank our Charter Gold guests for their participation!
