AmCham-NORTAL Seminar on GDPR

May 9, 2018 | ‒

On May 9, AmCham Estonia in cooperation with our Charter Gold member Nortal, held an interactive seminar on the General Data Protection Regulation that will come into force on May 25 this year. The enjoyable evening of information and mingling started with the welcoming words from Nicole Johnson, the Economic Officer at the U.S. Embassy Tallinn and Priit Alamäe, the CEO of Nortal.

You might think that the GDPR is just an IT issue, but that is the furthest from the truth. It has broad-sweeping implications for companies, including they way they handle marketing and sales activities. GDPR applies to all businesses and organizations established in the EU, regardless of whether the data processing takes place in the EU or not. Even non-EU established organizations will be subject to GDPR. If your business offers goods and/or services to citizens of the EU, then it’s subject to GDPR.

Gustav Poola, the Blockchain Consultant at Nortal gave a broader overview on the fast approaching GDPR and how is it going to affect the bussinesses. Maarja Pild from Triniti Law Office gave a presentation on some of the GDPR case studies: examples and frequently asked questions. The final presentaton was done by Artur Assor, the Head of Data Protection at Nortal. Artur talked about the actual process of adjusting to the upcoming GDPR by mapping out the data and its processing activities.

We would like to thank our Charter Gold member Nortal for hosting such a wonderful event and giving such an informative overview on the regulation. A huge thank you to Nicole Johnson for moderating the event and of course we would like to thank all the participants for joining us!
