Business Outreach to Ida-Viru County

As part of our Regional Outreach program, Amcham Estonia in cooperation with the U.S. Embassy Tallinn organized  a 2 day trip to Ida-Viru county. The program  featured multiple company visits in the region, behind-the-scenes tours, meeting with the Narva City government and a speaker event at Noorus Spa Hotel.

The program started with the visit to NPM Silmet AS, one of Europe’s largest rare metal and rare earth metal manufacturers, as well as the only processor outside of China with such a wide range of high-purity products. Mari-Liis Štrik-Ott, Work & Environmental Safety director, gave us a thorough presentation on the enterprise’s structure and strategies followed by an exciting behind-the scenes tour.

Our last stop for the day was the visit to Aquaphor, a company founded in 1992 to develop and produce water filters. It evolved into an international company with production and research sites in Estonia, Russia and the United States.More than 13.5 million families from 35 countries are already benefiting from use of Aquaphor products. The CEO of the company, Ph. D. Joseph Shmidt, was so kind to give us a thorough tour and insights to the industry.

The day concluded with the dinner and an inspirational speaker event with Jana Pavlenkova, CEO of Prototron on the topic of  Narva Creative Industry Development.

On the second day the AmCham delegation got a chance to meet with the Narva City Government to get updates on the regional developmental plans and visit VKG , the second largest power distribution company in Estonia after Eesti Energia Jaotusvõrk (Distribution Network). After the insightful presentation by the Chairman of the Board, Ahti Asmann, we got to visit the plant itself and enjoy the magnificent view from the 45 m height.

Our trip concluded with the delicious lunch in Saka Mõis, allowing the participants to take some time off, relax and mingle before returning back to the capital. We would like to thank all the participants for joining  us for this inspirational outreach trip!
