Women in Leadership Presents – CODE: Debugging the Gender Gap
“There is no reason a woman can’t be anywhere, where a man can be” – said Robin Hauser, the director of the film CODE:Debugging the Gender Gap, during her inspirational introduction at the AmCham WIL screening of her movie. And we could not agree more! This event was devoted to encouraging women in tech and aroused a great interest among our members – over 100 AmCham members and friends gathered on April 6 at Coca-Cola Plaza to see this thought-provoking film and meet our inspirational speakers – the film-maker Robin Hauser and the founder and CEO of Testlio, Kristel Kruustük.
CODE aims to inspire change in mindsets, in the educational system, in startup culture and in the way women see themselves in the field of coding.Tech jobs are growing three times faster than our colleges are producing computer science graduates. By 2020, there will be one million unfilled software engineering jobs in the USA. Through compelling interviews, artistic animation and clever flashpoints in popular culture, CODE documentary examines the reasons why more girls and people of color are not seeking opportunities in computer science and explores how cultural mindsets, stereotypes, educational hurdles and sexism all play roles in this national crisis.
The screening of the film was followed with an active Q&A discussion, during which our guests had a chance to share their personal experience and insights to the story. We sincerely thank Robin for sharing the story of creating this movie and giving our participants a rare opportunity to peak behind-the-scenes. We would also like to thank Kristel Kruustük for sharing her story with us! A big thank you goes to the U.S. Embassy for providing the film for screening and Deputy Chief of Mission Elizabeth Horst for introducing our speakers. And of course we would like to thank all the participants for coming out and sincerely hope you enjoyed the event!
