On April 26, over 100 AmCham members, partners and invited guests gathered to celebrate the Annual IP Day in cooperation with the U.S. Embassy and The Estonian Intellectual Property and Technology Transfer Centre (EIPTTC).
Daria Sivovol and Indrek Laul opened the event with welcoming all event participants.
After that, Maris Leemets, the Chair of AmCham IPR Committee, gave an overview of the Committee and its main goal which is to advocate for better IPR protection and provide leadership that will bring together interested partners. Sharing information with decision makers and law enforcement is also a priority.
Then, Kai Härmand, the Deputy State Secretary of Ministry of Justice explained the role of the Ministry in supporting and protecting the rights of the artists and the importance of the issue. She pointed out that new times require new regulations.
Urmas Ambur from Estonian Performers Association gave an overview of how the situation and the point of concern has changed over the decades. Right now we are facing the situation, when the dialogue has to be held between humans and computers. Every person has to take responsibility and make decisions, to protect the intellectual property of the creators.
After the informative speeches, we had a great opportunity to witness the performance of one of Estonia’s most talented singers – Ott Lepland. Ott himself, is one of the creators, who’s rights as well as creations also have to be supported and protected.
As Public Service Announcement (PSA) plays a huge role in the protection of the IP, The U.S. Embassy announced the winner of PSA Awards and all the participants also had a chance to see for the first time the winning project of the students of Tallinn University, who`s work – “Respect the artist! Stop piracy!” will be screened in Forum and Apollo Cinemas until the end of August.
The celebration of the Annual IP Day ended with screening of “Demolition ”.
We would like to thank of all our members and partners, as well as invited guests, for their participation! Special thank you goes to Microsoft and EIPTT for supporting the event. And of course our best regards go to Ott Lepland for his outstanding performance and to Coca-Cola Plaza for hosting the event!
