On March 10, close to 60 participants came together for the AmCham Women in Leadership event in celebration of the International Women’s Day. The event was devoted to the topic of “Why Choose Leadership?” According to Chever Voltmer, US Embassy “This initiative brings dynamic, inspiring, and talented women together to learn and to grow – from each other and from recognized experts in various fields. In honor of International Women’s Day, AmCham will focus on female leadership with two exciting speakers who will help participants further hone their leadership skills to take full advantage of existing opportunities and to create new ones.”
The program featured two keynote speakers: Shirlynn Lim, the General Manager of Radisson Sonya Hotel in St. Petersburg, Russia and Kathleen Naglee, the Director of the International School of Estonia and the Vice-President of the American Chamber of Commerce.
Before the speakers got to address the audience with their messages, event participants had a chance to view a special video greeting from Penny Pritzker, the Secretary of the U.S. Department of Commerce. The video message was presented and introduced by the Deputy Chief of Mission of the U.S. Embassy Tallinn Chever Voltmer.
Then the event discussion focused mainly on why women should consider taking a leadership role in their own organisations and what being a leader really means.
“Being a leader is not about a title in your life. It’s the willingness to take your views up the ladder and then seeing the system from above. It’s about looking around after you get there and asking a system to change.”- stated Kathleen Naglee during her speech.
Many event participants actively participated with their questions to the speakers and sharing their views. We hope that all have walked out from the event inspired and motivated to craft their own strategy for the future.
We sincerely thank our event partners – MICROSOFT, AVON and RADISSON BLU SKY HOTEL TALLINN – for their support! Also a big ‘Thank you’ goes to our speakers and all active female professionals out there who are not standing on the sidelines!!!
