On October 11, AmCham Estonia Healthcare Committee in cooperation with our Premium Partners – Microsoft and Roche, event partners Cobalt Law Office, MSD and European Commission Representation, held the first high scale healthcare conference dedicated to the future of healthcare, innovation, and digitalization.
Event speakers included Minister Riina Sikkut (Ministry of Social Affairs), Andres Võrk from the University of Tartu, Lorenzo Pengo from Microsoft, Alexander Roediger from MSD and EFPIA, Sophie Clozel from Genentech, Toomas Tamsar from the Estonian Employers’ Federation and Rain Laane from the Estonian Health Insurance Fund. Agris Koppel from the Ministry of Social Affairs and Agris Peedu from PERH joined the panel discussion.
Riina Sikkut, the Minister of Health and Labour opened the event and mentioned that the future of healthcare is inevitably more digitalized and inclusive. She mentioned that it is not only the processes that we are talking about but also AI. Altogether it should bring us to a more qualified and personalized healthcare system.
Andres Võrk gave a more economic perspective to the topic and mentioned that healthcare does have an effect on the GDP and our healthcare system overall is quite effective but the investments have not been quite so.
Sophie Clozel mentioned that over the last decades the sector has developed an ability and technologies to create more personalized treatment methods. The best example would be cancer treatment – nowadays it can already be treated locally instead of having to go through chemotherapy.
Rain Laane emphasized that it is extremely important to work on the digitalization of those links and factors, that will make all processes more fast and smooth.
At the end of the discussions, all the speakers and panelists came to a conclusion that it is the cooperation of different sectors, more efficient digitalization and usage of data that will bring us to a more high-quality healthcare system!
