AmChams in Europe Reaffirm Support for a Future-Focused Transatlantic Partnership and Address Letter to Commissioner Šefčovič

June 2025 – AmChams in Europe, representing 50 American Chambers of Commerce across 48 countries and more than 17,000 U.S. and European companies, reaffirms its full commitment to strengthening the EU-U.S. relationship and has formally addressed a letter to European Commissioner Maroš Šefčovič, acknowledging his vital leadership in advancing transatlantic dialogue.

As steadfast allies and champions of a strong, resilient, and future-oriented transatlantic partnership, AmChams in Europe are pleased to share key takeaways from May’s 2025 U.S. Delegation. This high-level engagement brought together 47 representatives from 30 AmChams across Europe for strategic meetings in Washington, D.C., and Atlanta, Georgia.

Throughout discussions with top U.S. institutions—including the U.S. Department of State, the Department of Commerce, the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative, and major global corporations—one clear message emerged: the transatlantic partnership remains a cornerstone of global economic stability, peace, and innovation.

The transatlantic economic relationship:

  • Generates over $9.5 trillion in economic output annually.
  • Supports 16 million jobs on both sides of the Atlantic.
  • Drives one-third of global GDP.
  • Facilitates over $7.5 trillion in commercial sales every year.
  • Sees 64% of foreign direct investment (FDI) into the U.S. coming from Europe.
  • Returns 56% of U.S. FDI into Europe.

These figures demonstrate the unmatched strategic and economic importance of the EU-U.S. alliance.

AmChams in Europe strongly support:

  • A tariff-free transatlantic space, rejecting broad-based tariffs that penalize businesses and consumers alike.
  • Transparent, predictable, and harmonized regulation to reduce friction and enhance cooperation.
  • Deeper collaboration in areas like digital transformation, sustainability, innovation, and fair trade.

As organizations deeply rooted in their national economies, the American Chambers of Commerce across Europe emphasize that dialogue must be followed by concrete action. The coming weeks will be pivotal in setting the course for an ambitious transatlantic agenda.

We commend Commissioner Maroš Šefčovič, responsible for Trade and Economic Security, Interinstitutional Relations, and Transparency, for his leadership and proactive engagement. His role is instrumental in ensuring that the EU-U.S. partnership continues to evolve and thrive.

AmChams in Europe stand ready to contribute to a more integrated, forward-looking, and resilient transatlantic alliance.
