On November 12, members of AmCham Estonia had a chance to join an online discussion, organized by AmCham EU, on the topic of the US Elections and the Transatlantic Economy.
The discussion featured Michael Froman, the Vice-Chairman and President, Strategic Growth, Mastercard, Former USTR, Obama administration as a Keynote Speaker and was moderated by Dr. Stormy-Annika Mildner, the Director for International Affairs, BDI.
Michael Froman noted that over the past few years, we’ve seen the rise of nationalism – the tone, and relationship of the Transatlantic communication have been, and are still changing. However, it is always good to have a full diversity of perspectives. With the new president-elect, foreign affairs will most probably become one of the landmark issues, with an effort towards alliance and partnerships.
A focus on the digital economy might definitely become one of the priorities, that will bring the EU and US together to address the technical issues.
Within the next few months, however, the domestic agenda will remain the top priority, as there are some critical issues that need to be addressed. Covid, climate change, sense of security – this strong foundation will give a powerful resource to engage internationally in the future.
We would like to thank AmCham EU for giving us the opportunity to be part of the discussion, and our members for joining the online event!
