AMCHAM HEALTHCARE CONFERENCE 2019

October 11, 2019 | 09:00 ‒ 12:00

On October 11, members of AmCham Estonia, as well as invited guests from the public sector and the healthcare industry, gathered at the Estonian Business School to attend the 2nd Annual Healthcare Conference organized by AmCham Estonia and our Healthcare committee. This time the topic of the conference was “Data-Driven Healthcare: What are the missing pieces?”

The event was opened by the Minister of Social Affairs Tanel Kiik. He emphasized the message that data-driven healthcare in an important issue for the Estonian Government as it would help us to use the budget more effectively. He also said that the way forward is definitely the public-private partnership and reinforced the message of the importance of input from the related companies!

After the opening message from the Minister, our keynote speakers from Finland: Pekka Sivonen from Business Finland and Kaija Sellman from IBM Finland, gave their presentation on the best practices from our nordic neighbor. From their presentations it was rather clear that we should not be afraid of the AI –  it will help us to navigate in the ocean of data and support innovation. It is important to keep up with technological development and support it with the development of the right mindset!

The event continued with the panel discussion of the local healthcare representatives form the private sector, the public sector as well as academia. The panel, moderated by Elo Tamm, partner at the Cobalt Law office and Chairwoman of AmCham Estonia Healthcare committee, concluded the fact that actually, most of the puzzle pieces are falling into place. They agreed that digitalization is a struggle, but public-private collaboration is crucial in supporting the activities. It is also very important to have an honest open discussion and find ways to support each other!

A huge thank you to Estonia Business School for hosting this event!! Of course, we would like to thank our Charter Gold member, IBM, for sponsoring the conference and bringing the amazing keynote speakers! We would also like to thank the Ministry of Social Affairs and all our panelists for finding the time and making the effort to join the constructive discussion and support it with your opinion! A special thank you to Elo Tamm for moderating!

Let’s continue with the discussion and be open to partnership and cooperation!
