On October 6, over 30 AmCham members participated in this year’s 4th Behind-the-Scenes tour! This time, Telia Estonia , one of our new members this year, gave us a unique opportunity to take a peek into an amazing and fast-developing world of telecommunications.
In the beginning of the event, Reimo Känd, the Head of Technical Support gave us a tour of the control operation center located in the building, which is also a network centre for the whole Telia Estonia. This is the midpoint where all services offered by the company are monitored 24/7. Customer support specialists oversee the daily flow of all calls, alarms and other services that help Telia improve and of course keep up the high level of service quality.
After that, Dan Strömberg, Telia’s Chairman of the Management Board, told us about the history of Telia in Estonia. Also what are the new technologies and trends in the world of telecommunications. Telia Group has 27 million customers all over the world and of course is one of the most loved brands in Estonia being in the country since 1992.
Toivo Praakel, the Head of Telia’s Network and Infrastructure Development also talked about technology trends and one of the most desired updates planned for the nearest future– 5G! 5G is going to be a revolution accompanied by a huge data volume increase, faster connections and smart city projects. If all goes as planned, in 2018 Estonia will be one of the first countries in Europe to launch 5G!
Presentations were followed by a network mingle over coffee and delicious snacks.
