SEPT 22: AmCham Defence & Security Committee Briefing – 5G

September 22, 2026 | 10:00 ‒ 12:00

On September 22, members of the AmCham Defence, Security & Resilience Committee had the privilege of visiting the NATO Cooperative Cyber Defence Centre of Excellence (CCDCOE) as part of Estonian Defence Week!

We started the visit with an insightful presentation by Urmas Ruuto, Head of the TECH Branch at CCDCOE, who provided an excellent overview of the Centre’s history, strategic focus areas, key products and services, training programmes, and cyber exercises — including Locked Shields, the world’s largest live-fire cyber defence exercise.

The visit continued with an engaging roundtable discussion with Mattias Männi, 5G Program Manager, CCDCOE  on the adoption of cellular technologies by the military, emerging industry trends, and the future of connectivity in defence. We also gained valuable insights into the Centre’s ongoing 5G-related programme activities.

A fascinating morning of learning and exchanging perspectives on the evolving role of technology in strengthening defence capabilities and resilience.

A big thank you to Urmas Ruuto, Mattias Männi, and the entire CCDCOE team for hosting us and sharing their expertise!
