Tallinn, Estonia, July 2, 2024 – The American Chamber of Commerce Estonia Digital Society Committee has officially presented its latest Digital Resilience Position Paper to the newly-elected members of the European Parliament (MEPs) from Estonia. This key document highlights the Committee’s belief in the transformative potential of digital technologies to address critical societal challenges, including climate change and healthcare, while fostering the emergence and growth of new ventures crucial for Estonia’s future economic landscape.
Estonia, renowned as a digital frontrunner, is well-positioned to maximize the benefits of digitization. However, this requires a continued commitment to an ambitious national agenda focused on digitization, innovation, and entrepreneurship. The success of Estonia, a small and export-driven country, is also intrinsically linked to the European Union’s ability to cultivate a positive policy agenda that promotes an open economy.
The AmCham Estonia Digital Society Committee urges Estonia to leverage its role as a digital leader and its soft power to advocate for a forward-thinking EU agenda in the wake of this year’s elections. This includes collaboration with partners and like-minded countries through initiatives such as the declaration signed by Prime Minister Kaja Kallas and efforts spearheaded by Minister Tiit Riisalo, aimed at deepening the positive outlook within a more digital context.
“We believe that Estonia has a unique opportunity to lead by example in the digital space,” stated Daria Sivovol, AmCham CEO. “By driving a progressive digital agenda both nationally and at the EU level, Estonia can help shape a future where digital solutions address some of the most pressing challenges of our time.”
The Committee stands ready to engage in further discussions this fall season and invites questions or comments from all interested parties.
